Barb Pettitt – A lifelong Episcopalian, I’ve been a member of St. Bede’s for 23 years. I taught Sunday School and was an usher for many years before joining the choir in 2016. I’ve made many friends participating in Sisters of Bede activities.
I’ve been a pediatric surgeon at Emory since 1985, serving as Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Grady for twenty years, then retiring from clinical practice almost that long ago to become Director of Medical Student Education in the Dept. of Surgery. I love teaching and advising the medical students. One of my favorite activities is our annual global surgery trip, for many years to Haiti, now to Guatemala. I’m active on national surgical education task forces and committees and serve as president or on the board of my alma mater (Central College, Pella, Iowa), my community association, Harmonia Atlanta (formerly the Dekalb Choral Guild) and Arbor Montessori School.
I have three beautiful 30-something children: Christie and her wife, Erin; Lucy, recently married to her husband, Aidan; and Brian. St. Bede’s is home, a loving and supportive family that has been there for me for many years. I look forward to serving on the Vestry and giving back to this wonderful community.
